Cascade Senior 2012 - Emily

The first thing you may notice about Emily is her hair.It was the first thing I noticed as she pulled up in her little black pickup. She chose a daring beautiful red color and in an spontaneous descion dyed it the night before our shoot. I don't know about you but I would have been petrified to make such a huge change before my senior pictures, so it goes without saying that Emily has guts!
Emily is a senior at Cascade Highschool. She is going to pursue a career in Cosmotology and if her current do has anything to say about it I think she's going to knock people's socks off with her creativity and talent. Behind the flaming red hair and ready smile, Emily is a quiet well spoken teen who loves reading, especially about vampires and other supernatural romances.Yep, you guessed it,  she's a Twilight fan, but then again there aren't very many people out there that aren't in some way or another. Her favorite color is pink. Let's add one more thing about Emily...
She's graduating early! Let's all give this super talented young lady a huge round of applause.

Franklin County Senior Sprite - Rex- 2012

Introducing our second Senior Sprite, Rex. Rex goes to Franklin county Highschool. His favorite color is neon green and his favorite musician is the rapper Eminem. After school he plans on joining his father in the family business.
For Rex's shoot we meandered around the Cowan town square, a quaint little railroad town with a storied history that lies just outside of Winchester. Like most guys it was a little tough to get even a grin out of Rex, but we managed a few and had a fun time doing it. Here's wishing Rex a wonderful future!
I like the seriousness of this pose. The little cabin in the background is a historical treasure of Cowan. If I'm not mistaken it was their first jail house.

Cowan is split directly in half by a working railroad track. This railroad car sits nearby.

Another serious tough guy pose.

This was the family's favorite image.

See not even a tough guy can hold back his smile when holding the family dog. I love the doggies ears, so horribly cute!

Waiting on Parker

A few months ago we visited the Bennett family for their family photos back at Rutledge Falls. Mom had just found a few days before that she was pregnant with their second child. Now several months later I got the opportunity to showcase the growing life inside her, a new baby boy, named Parker. Parker is expected to make his debut sometime in November and I'm very excited to meet him, course not nowhere near as excited as little Ethan whose about to become a big brother! Mom was absolutely glowing for our entire session all smiles and laughter, leading me to believe she might be the most beautiful pregnant woman I've ever met. Course I may be a bit partial.
We had a devil of a time getting this shot. Mom is a small lady and even with the promise of new life causing her stomach to swell there almost wasn't enough room for all the blocks. Couple that with little Ethan sitting nearby doing silly things. Everytime she'd laugh the blocks would jump off. And then just as soon as we got them settled again little Parker decided to kick and they all tumbled down again, lol!

This is the mom's favorite shot. And I love it too, it came out exactly as I imagined it and is as an added bonus almost SOOC. Everytime I look at this, I imagine a deep conversation between dad and son, about the new baby or maybe where babies come from.

Another one of the mom's favorite shots. In this one I wanted to go for a goddess of plenty look. She's holding a cornucopia or horn of plenty filled with indian corn and looking into the sky while holding her belly and the baby within.

And this one's my favorite. So many times the first born gets a little overlooked during the first bit of the new babies life and I wanted to make sure Ethan didn't feel that way at all.  So here's Ethan, so happy, smiley, his bear-bear in the seat next to him. He's excited to meet his new little brother, Parker. And Mom and Dad are in the background this time, looking at their little boy whose getting bigger ever day and holding onto baby Parker and each other.

Moore County Senior Sprite - Katie- 2012

As my faithful followers already know, we instituted a new program this year to boost our precense in the Senior community. No not Seniors as in older folks but Seniors as in those bright faced young people who are on the cusp of starting their new lives on their own. Our program is called Senior Sprites. Senior Sprites are local seniors who have agreed to spread the word to their friends and family about Fairytree Photography in exchange for a free senior session.
Our first Senior Sprite is a wonderful young lady named Katie.
Katie goes to Moore County Highschool, home of the blue raiders. She loves the color blue and the musical stylings of the very popular, Lil Wayne. (Not to my taste but to each their own.) Her current plans are to attend MTSU after highschool. I know all my readers can get behind me on wishing this bright and beautiful young lady the best in her future.
Also for this session we traveled to a very special place located in Moore county not far from fabulous Lynchburg. The GreenRose of Raus Bed and Breakfast was kind enough to host our senior session on their immaculate grounds. The GreenRose is an absolute perfect hidden gem nestled in the rolling hills of Tennessee. The completely renovated old plantation home is tastefully decorated and the owner Pat Cox is more than happy to give her guests an informational and entertaining tour of her home and the antiques she's furnished it with. It's an ideal place for a sweet romantic weekend getaway. I have to recommend the Prince room. Just from the peek inside I got during our shoot I have to say the massive bed looked so soft and inviting... I'm thinking about booking a little getaway myself just to find out for sure. ;)
On the wicker swing of the GreenRose. Placed on a corner of the deck a nice breeze blowed through and cooled us off on this rather warm September day.

I love the Noir look of this picture. So glamorous!

Katie standing in an adjacent field. The sky was so blue!

This is Katie's favorite picture of the session. She looks like she's in another time and place.

This is an example of the studio style shots we offer our seniors. This was taken in Katie's home with pop-up blue screen backdrop and then I added  my own special background in Blue of course!

Rocking Away on a Summer's Day

August saw us back at the wonderful Rutledge Falls area with the Melson family. Their photoshoot was all about their adorable son Rylan. We had a lot of fun trying to get and keep this little guy's attention for any amount of time, blowing bubbles, making odd sounds, whistling, my assistant even decided to mess up my hair to get him to smile. By the time the shoot was over we were all soaked with the hot summer weather but I knew his mom and dad would be pleased with their pictures. They went down to cool off in the Falls and I went home to work editing.

Pretty Pageant

It's been a little slow around Fairytree Photography this summer and no wonder its been so hot and sticky outside nobody wants to move much less get their pictures taken. All droughts will come to an end eventually with the cooler weather of fall whispering on the horizon.
Here's some cute little headshots of a young girl who is entering a few of the local pageants this year. She was a pleasure to work with an absolutely perfect pint-sized model. Here's wishing little Leah lots of luck in her coming competitions.

A Wedding with a View

At the end of May we were very pleased to be a part of the Smith-Hill Wedding. It was our first visit to the UTSI campus. The UTSI campus is located inside Arnold Air Force Base and is surrounded by gorgeous Tennessee woodlands and a beautiful lake. The day of was hot and muggy with perfectly clear blue skies. Our beautiful bride was a pleasure to work with from start to finish.

The Bride and Groom's rings nestled inside of a magnolia blossom

My favorite image from the day, the bride sneaking a peek of her groom!

The Wedding Party

How romantic!

This was the first cupcake wedding cake I'd ever seen and it was absolutely stunning!

The bride looking out waiting for her time to appear.

Senior by Design

Our first official senior only session was this past May. Our beautiful model Ashley is an exemplary student at Coffee County Central High School, which coincidentally is also my alma mater. I'm sure that Ashley will go far in this world with her intelligence and innate beauty.
These first two were Ashley's favorites - This casual image

...And this formal cap and gown image.

I've chosen to share this one because its a classic picture.

This one is my favorite. Everytime I see it I think of a magazine cover/ad. I don't know why or even which magazine, but I do know it speaks to me.
I'm sharing this one mostly because of my husband. I had just finished editing and he walked in and goes, "Wow, she looks like a movie star! She'll love that one." I do think its an evocative image and I love the way she looks like she's bathing in sunlight, just the effect I was going for at the time.

Playing in Sunlight

As we all know April was an insanely busy month for us at Fairytree Photography. We had bunny day which was a blast! I definitely hope to make Bunny Day a yearly endeavor and next year I'll plan ahead and instead of just going, 'hey, i wanna do this, lets make it happen'. Cut out some of the scrambling and stress. Then we had a bridal shoot for my sister-in-law. As you can manage the month was pretty well filled with helping out with their wedding in all forms not just photography. My brother and his beautiful bride are back home now after a wonderful sun filled vacation that makes my mouth water for the beat of ocean waves and are settling in nicely. Then we had the fairy promo shoot. And as usual it seems we had a few snags there as well but all in all that turned out fantastic too.
The Bennett family photoshoot that I'm about to share with you was a last minute addition to our monthly schedule. I'm always happy to work with this family they are just picture perfect. Beautiful mother, handsome father, and cute little boy. We went out for this shoot, visiting a local location known as Rutledge Falls. Rutledge Falls is a nicely groomed little area whose owner is generous and thoughtful enough to keep it up and share the spectacular hidden waterfalls with the public. The falls aren't in any of these pictures because Mother Bennett was a little worried about the climb down with flip flops on. And I don't blame her, especially not with the precious cargo she's carrying.
As busy as April was, I would love it if every month from now on out were just as busy if not more.

This is the family's favorite picture!

If you happen to notice a glow about this family its not just because of the wonderful sunlit day. There's an extra member of the family in these pictures! They just found out about a week before the shoot that they'll be expecting their second child! Congratulations guys!

Fairy Wings and Other Things

I want to share some new advertising images I have created recently to help promote Fairytree Photography. But first with much trepidation I am announcing the woman in the fairy pictures is...me. The day of the Fairy shoot I had TWO wonderful models lined up to come out to our woodland spot and make magic. They each had a different style and a different vision. I was completely psyched to work with them. The day came and I was left waiting alone, with my extra set of wings, bubble mixture, and camera. Both of my models never showed. I was very upset both with the girls and with the wasted time but decided to make the most of the evening anyway. I racked through my old closet looking for clothes I had left at home after I moved and found an older prom dress. I borrowed makeup from my sister-in-law and with much hesitation became a fairy. I handed the camera over to my assistant photographer and second shooter and proceeded to model. I hate modeling. I can't see what the result is. I can't automatically change the angle or perspective. If the light is correct, if my wings were straight. I pretty much hated everything about the day, but I was bound and determined that it would not be a waste. And....it wasn't.
This is the most loved image from the session. I've already gotten so much feedback from this one image. The whimsy, the innocence, sigh

This is my personal favorite. I actually love this picture because it is me.  Imagine that....

This one gets alot of oohs and ahhs too. Somehow I managed to shrink myself down to pixie size, or at least it looks that way.

Bubbles bubbles everywhere. One of the few shots the bubbles managed to stay in. Its been called elegant, I prefer magic.

And lastly, I like this one, though I don't think many other people do, because of the wild nature of the image. Like the fairy could spring off the page and devour the viewer.
I'm still not thrilled that the face in these pictures is mine, but they really do speak volumes about Fairytree Photography. About the magic and the fairytale that is someone's life. That's what we're about here, the magic, the fairytale, the memory. And even after the mosquito bumps have faded I'll still have this memory for a very long time.

Bridal Beauty

For those of you who don't already know...My brother got married yesterday afternoon to his best friend of eight years. I am so happy and excited for them. It was an amazing experience watching him wed the woman I have maintained would be perfect for him since the first time I met her. I've been sitting on her bridal pictures for the past week or two, waiting on showing them off so that the first time he saw her in her dress was the moment she walked around the corner. It's been hard to keep them to myself because the bride is so beautiful and the pictures really reflect that.  It was a privilege and an honor to take her bridal pictures not only because she's my new sister *eek!*, but because she's a wonderful photographer in her own right.
There wasn't a dry eye in the house of these two wonderful people exchanged their own personal written vows for each other. Now they're on their honeymoon and I know when they get back I'll get to look at tons of pictures of white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and baby blue skies.
So now that the big day is finally over I'm proud to present the newest addition to my family,  Mrs. Cooley!
This is my favorite picture possibly of all time! So dreamy and romantic. A fairytale. That's what magic memories and Fairytree Photography are all about.

This next one captures the pure joy of getting married!

I love the sense of perspective in this picture. A wonderful closeup of the bouquet (handmade by the bride herself)!

Another dreamy photo! The pink dogwoods framing her face in this picture were gone just  a few days later, but here they are captured forever just as bright and beautiful as they were that spring day.

Another personal favorite of mine. The bride has such gorgeous blue eyes and I really wanted to draw attention to them.
